ZHARNEL HUGHES was comfortable enough to take a sideways glance at his competition while easing up en-route to the British 100m title.

And the national record holder said he has laid down a big marker ahead of next month's world championships in Tokyo by clocking 9.94secs at the Alexander Stadium, three-hundredths ahead of world indoor 60m champ Jeremiah Azu.

“IL was having fun, that's the most important thing,” Hughes said of celebrating early. “I wanted to give a great performance and I'm happy to go sub-10.”
