PRESSURE MOUNTS ON BOSS AS ROGERS FIRES WINNER

- BY JOHN TOWNLEY

ASTON VILLA booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating Tottenham 2-1 in the capital.

Emi Buendia opened the scoring and Morgan Rogers doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time.

Wilson Odobert halved the host's deficit after the break but they did not do enough to force extra-time as the pressure further increased on Thomas Frank. The under-fire Spurs boss (right) had already endured a nightmare week after he inadvertently used a coffee cup with the logo of Spurs’ rivals Arsenal on it before a 3-2 loss at Bournemouth on Wednesday.

The victory ensures Villa have now won their last three FA Cup third-round ties, having been eliminated at this stage in each of the seven campaigns prior.

Villa have also become the first team since Manchester United in 2007-08 and 2008-09 to eliminate Spurs from the FA Cup in consecutive seasons.
