GREGOR TOWNSEND hailed his clinical Scots as his shadow stars overcame a shaky start and nervy finish to get their summer tour off to a winning start in New Zealand.

The inexperienced Scotland side were stunned when Sam Nock gave the Maori All Blacks an early lead.

But the tourists roared back as a double from George Horne and further tries by Harry Paterson and Arron Reed put them in control.

They were then forced to hang on as the Maoris cut the gap to three points with 10 minutes left.

Boss Townsend, however, was delighted with the win.
