Barney cashes in on first senior hat-trick as McGlynn tells pauper of Prem: Fancy a raise? Sign a new contract
-
PAUPER turned prince Barney Stewart hit a first career hat-trick to down Hibs and show why he's graduated from uni football to the Premiership in just 13 months.
Bairns boss John McGlynn reckons the striker will be the poorest-paid player in the top tier.
But after being wowed by the 21-year-old’s treble he told the Scotland Under-21 cap he'll still not be getting a rise - unless he agrees a new contract.
‘Stewart ~ plucked from Heriot Watt University in the East of Scotland First Division last season — was hauled back from his loan spell at Dunfermline earlier this month to help solve a Bairns goal drought.
They've not lost since - and this was undoubtedly their best performance of the season.
Among his treble was a contender for goal of the season that had McGlynn gushing as his team went prime Barcelona to cut through the woeful Hibees.
The rout was completed in the 90th minute when Grant Hanley deflected a Louie Marsh effort into his own net.
And McGlynn beamed: “Wow! You know where Barney was 13 months ago, we keep on going on about it.
“We took him from Heriot-Watt University and he scored a couple of goals for us in the Championship.
“He gets that injury, tears a metatarsal, which meant hed not played for a long time.
“It was ideal to go to Dunfermline, come back and his personality is amazing.
e's got to stay in the right place today to get goals and that’s what we've been missing.
