Revamped Toyota bZ4X has added long mileage to driveability and a top console

THE new Toyota bZ4X has a digital island in the centre of the cabin. It includes a 14in screen that looks bigger than the portable TV I had when I was a student - and it’s in colour.

Below the screen are the climate controls and beneath them not one but two wireless chargers. So sensible

The island console continues with the rotary dial for the gears, the driving modes, Eco and Snow, along with things like the parking brake.

It all makes for a sensible but sophisticated island of tech in this lovely revamp of the bZ4X - and I do love an island.

(Confession here: one of my favourite programmes is Desert Island Discs and 1 would be tempted to take this car as my luxury item).

The original bZ4X (beyond zero with an X to point to its SUV credentials) was a lovely car but lacked range.
