FRAMBOUR STYLE Gibson gives Rachel Corsie leg stretch

- BY ALISON McCONNELL

SCOTLAND can get back to a major tournament if they can harness the energy and drive of the new generation, according to veteran stopper Lee Gibson.

Melissa Andreatta’s regime got off to a losing start at Hampden on Friday as Scotland’s defeat to Austria relegated them from Nations League A.

There was a debut for Kathleen McGovern up front while there was also a first cap for Mia McAulay, Rangers’ 18-year-old winger.

And Gibson has pointed to the youthful exuberance of the teen as evidence of the quality of player who is stepping into the national team.

“I think it’s just being young and having that raw talent,” said Gibson. “There’s no fear and I love that. I just said to her [Mia] go be positive, go one v one, you've got her straight away.
