Josh salvages point as Simo hunts Kirk replacement

SIMO VALAKARI is eyeing up a deadline-day striker swoop as Makenzie Kirk closes in on a £500,000 switch to Portsmouth.

Kirk, who netted 11 goals last season, is jetting to the south coast this morning.

Pompey won the race for the Northern Ireland Under-21 star, having fought off interest from Peterborough and league rivals Dunfermline.

Kirk was left out of the Saints squad as Valakari's men battled back to earn a point.

Josh McPake struck in the 83rd minute to cancel out Eamonn Brophy's opener.

As Saints' new striker Louis Lloyd battles a foot injury, Valakari is planning to replace Kirk. He said: "Makenzie will travel south for a medical. It looks like he will move on.
