Don't let the Easter bunny drive you hopping mad with sweet treats for your little ones - go for a healthier approach to the celebrations

How to have a healthy Easter

Easter celebrations often centre around food, whether that’s joyously scoffing chocolate eggs or devouring a big Sunday roast.

But this can pose a challenge for those with little ones, as healthy eating often goes out the window along with the disruption of their usual school routine.

Health coach Steve Bennett, who is also a parliamentary advisor at the House of Lords Food, Diet and Obesity Committee, advises that adopting the 80/20 rule could be the best approach for parents over the Easter break.

"Aim for healthy choices 80% of the time, allowing for treats during the remaining 20%," he said. "When children associate healthy eating with flexibility rather than restriction, they develop a healthier relationship with food. By balancing traditional treats with healthier alternatives, parents can teach life skills that will serve children for years to come."

Families who are managing allergies have their own unique challenges, from cross-contamination risks to social pressure.
