SIOG GAEL (2.02) can kick off her new campaign in terrific style at Carlisle.

It’s a superb little card in Cumbria with plenty of talented young horses ‘on show.

The handicap hurdle over just shy of 2m4f looks trappy and the vote just goes to Fergal O'Brien's charge.

The six-year-old did well last season and finished off in excellent style when coping with the step-up in distance to win a Newbury Grade 2.

The slight concern is that Siog Gael was given a pipe opener this time last year to get perfectly set for a bumper crack at Cheltenham and this might be a way to get tuned up for another day.

However, on bare form alone, the O'Brien horse looks ideal for the test. With fitness taken on trust and the yard in top form, she gets the vote.
