Hutton: 'Squad of captains' won Helicopter Sunday - and Rohl's Rangers need that too
-
But for Alan Hutton, it was a squad of captains on the ground who were really responsible for turning Rangers round and making 'Helicopter Sunday' possible.
Twenty-one years have passed since Alex McLeish's Gers soared past Celtic in the 90th minute of one of the most remarkable conclusions to a Scottish top flight ever.
Like most, Hutton won't forget. It was his first major honour. But it came with the most bittersweet taste.
The then 20-year-old had built on his breakthrough season to become a regular under Alex McLeish - only for the flying fullbacks momentum to be brought to a halt by a leg break suffered at Kilmarnock in the February.
Hutton was forced to watch the final three months of that campaign on crutches from the stand.
What he saw was a team of leaders dragging themselves back from a sluggish start to the final day.
And then force the famous midair turn from Lanarkshire - where leaders Celtic were throwing away three points in the 90th minute to Leith, where Rangers were seeing out a 1-0 win over Hibs.
McLeish's side had been five points behind their rivals with four games to go.
But a squad of mentality monsters led by Stefan Klos, Craig Moore, Fernando Ricksen and Nacho Novo never gave up.
