A FOUR-DAY working week could lead to a rise in excess boozing, experts have warned.

It comes after recent trials in Scottish public bodies have broadly been seen as successful, with reduced working hours improving productivity and mental health for staff.

But workplace experts have warned a "one-size-fits-all" approach in cutting working days might not work in sectors such as healthcare.

Alcohol deaths hit a 15-year high last year, while the average Scot continues to drink around 50 per cent above safe booze limits, according to Public Health Scotland.
