Wes blames lack of cash for delay to bone clinics

HEALTH Secretary Wes Streeting has blamed a lack of money for his failure to end the postcode lottery around potentially lifesaving osteoporosis care.

The Labour minister pledged before the election to roll out specialist clinics nationwide to test people for the bone disease the first time they turn up with a fracture.

This vow came in response to the Sunday Express Better Bones campaign, in conjunction with the Royal Osteoporosis Society, which called for fracture liaison services, or FLS, in every UK NHS trust. However, a lack of progress and glaring absence of a detailed plan have since left campaigners deflated. When quizzed at the Labour conference by an ROS volunteer, Mr Streeting admitted: "You know what the challenge will be; it's a resource constraint.
