Starmer hit by Labour infighting over ULEZ and food taxes

SIR Keir Starmer is fighting behind-the-scenes battles over issues such as road pricing and new food taxes, amid fears Labour will be accused of pushing up costs for working people.

London's Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan has rejected Sir Keir's plea to "reflect" on his ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ) policy, that will see some motorists charged £12.50 a day, and is to push ahead with expanding the policy to outer London boroughs after the High Court rejected a legal challenge by Tory councils.

But a Labour shadow minister last night called for the charge to be paused, saying: "The first thing people always complain about is the price at the pump and motoring costs so the last thing people want is an added tax on those things when they are trying to get to work.
