Kids unaware of electric rail dangers, fears grieving mum

Jade Kenyon, 17, died after being snared by the "third line" electric current emitted from a live rail near North Halling in Kent.

She had been out enjoying the end of her AS level exams but missed her last train, prompting her and a friend to walk home instead of catching a cab.

Tragically, as they took a shortcut while walking close to the track she was caught by the deadly 750-volt current.

Her devastated mother Rachel Farrington arrived at the scene to find her daughter had been killed instantly and wants to change the "misconception" the biggest risk of railways is being struck by a train.

Figures reveal a 20% rise in trespassing on tracks after the clocks went forward last year.

There were 19,000 cases in 12 months.

These led to 750,000 minutes of passenger delays and a £75million cost to the taxpayer.
