'I missed my sons' childhood due to cancer op ordeal'

CANCER sufferer Kate Mohamed, who was isolated from her partner and children for five years due to surgery, lockdown and red-tape, says she missed her sons' childhood.

- By Chris Riches

Kate, 47, from Surrey, had a 12-hour operation to remove a tumour from her pelvis, which led to catastrophic complications.

Following the op, medics had to operate again to amputate Kate's right leg, hip and half her pelvis, resulting in an 18-month pandemic hospital stay, including an induced coma and dialysis.

Kate was then told the family's one-bedroom flat was unsuitable for her disabilities, so she was placed in a care home for adults with brain injuries, 10 miles away.

The distance, cost and physical and emotional turmoil meant family could only visit once a month and her boys Elliyas and Zayden, now aged 15 and 11, were growing up fast without their mum.
