How AI strikes right note for happy guitars

GUITAR players will no longer be able to blame their instruments for duff notes as artificial intelligence will ensure they are in top condition.

Musicians including Sir Elton John may have complained that the new technology is "stealing" from artists by mining their work to generate new content. The AI work may sound like it has been made by a human but without paying them.

But premium guitar maker Lowden, whose instruments have been favoured by artists such as Eric Clapton, Ed Sheeran and Damien Rice, is the first in the world to embrace the technology to benefit musicians.

A small smart sensor is being built into each handcrafted guitar to track temperature, humidity, vibration and location.

Owners can then monitor the instrument in the MyLowden app, with information stored in the cloud.
