But he left the Stade de France feeling like the most cursed one instead.

This was such a massive game for all those involved, but for Salah it meant that little bit more.

His road to redemption had led him to Paris and the chance to "settle an old score" with the team he still had nightmares about.

But once again his battle with Real Madrid left him with a head full of recriminations and regrets.

The last time Salah met his makers from Madrid in club's football's showpiece clash it all ended in tears for him. Quite literally.

Back in 2018 Salah had left the pitch in floods of them after damaging his shoulder in a tangle with Sergio Ramos.

It had been his first final, but he ended it sitting in a Kyiv hospital having his shoulder examined.
