Army rolling out big guns on anniversary

THE sound of guns will reverberate across London tomorrow as Army howitzers fire tributes to the King and Queen on the first anniversary of the Coronation.
The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery will perform a 41-gun royal salute in Green Park at noon, followed an hour later by the Honourable Artillery Company's 62-gun salute from the Tower of London.
In 1947, King George VI, seeing the last remaining horse artillery was being mechanised, ordered that a horse-drawn troop should be kept to take part in the great ceremonies of state. So the King's Troop, a special ceremonial unit, was formed.
