999 call-outs for obese cost £5m

NHS spending on specialist ambulances and kit for obese patients jumped 123% last year to nearly £5million.
Trusts forked out £4.98m in 2024 compared with £2.24m in 2023.
It takes the bill since 2020 to £20.7m with at least 157,240 emergency call-outs requiring bariatric ambulances or equipment, though this is likely underestimated.
