Council pay deal is agreed

Efforts to avert strike action from Stirling Council workers over pay have taken a step forward after a leading union agreed to a two-year pay deal.

The latest proposal was made by Cosla last month to trade union representatives in local authorities across Scotland-with the plans seeing a four per cent increase in 2025/26 and then a 3.5 per cent increase the following year.

Cosla chiefs said the offer followed "ongoing and constructive engagement" and welcomed Unison's initial recommendation to its members to accept the deal.

Unison said its members had "overwhelmingly" voted to accept the deal-confirming that 83 per cent of those responding elected to take the deal. The union said the pay deal "exceeds the current cost of living, as well as next year's inflation forecasts".
