Another worker dies in Tiruvallur ammonia leak tragedy; death toll rises to 10

The death toll in the ammonia gas leak at a shrimp processing and export factory in Periyapalayam, Tiruvallur district, has risen to 10 after another worker undergoing treatment succumbed on Wednesday (June 24).
According to a Daily Thanthi report, the latest victim was an 18-year-old woman from Odisha who had been receiving treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.
Earlier, another worker from Assam had died on Tuesday (June 23) while undergoing treatment, taking the toll to nine.
The ammonia leak occurred on Sunday at a fish and shrimp processing and export factory in Periyapalayam, leaving 77 workers unconscious. They were rushed to hospitals in Tiruvallur and Chennai for treatment.
How did the death toll rise?
Two women workers died on the day of the incident. The toll increased to six by 7 pm on June 22. It reached 9 on June 23, and with the death of 18-year-old worker from Odisha, the toll has now reached 10.
