SAINTS HIT BACK TO AVERT TALK OF A CRISIS
August 18, 2025
|South Wales Evening Post
CRISIS? What crisis. A week on from losing their first game of the season, reigning JD Cymru Premier champions The New Saints quickly banished the memory of their 3-0 home defeat to Briton Ferry Llansawel.
-
They couldn't have asked for a tougher assignment than having to face last season’s runners-up Peny-bont at the same DragonBet Stadium at which they were beaten twice last season.
But answering manager Craig Harrison’s call for a reaction to going out of Europe at the first-round stage, and then losing to the Ferrymen, the champions flexed their muscles and came up with a notable victory.
Danny Williams and Ben Wilson got the goals in a 2-0 win as they got back on track and moved off the bottom of the table.
“We had a tough couple of weeks going in Europe and then losing last week,’ said Williams.
“We all felt we had to put things right and where better to do that than at a ground where we lost twice last year.
“We matched them, we battled, which we didn’t do against them last year, and we got things right.
“Now we want to build on this and put arun together”
Williams struck first in the 13th minute before Wilson picked up his first goal for the club with nine minutes left.
“We had a couple of good chances to go ahead early on before my goal went in,’ said Williams. “We all knew last week wasn’t good enough.
