Jail for man with 'appalling' record
October 30, 2025
|South Wales Evening Post
A MAN with an “appalling record” took police on a dangerous pursuit through Swansea despite only holding a provisional driving licence at the time, a court heard.
Liam Palmer, 29, was later found to be participating in a drugs network working across the city.
Prosecutor Harry Dickens told Cardiff Crown Court that on August 22, 2024, Palmer was seen driving a Ford Fiesta through the Penlan area of Swansea.
At the time Palmer held only a provisional driving test having not yet passed an extended driving test following an earlier driving disqualification.
The police tried to stop Palmer but he reversed the car, spun around, and drove through residential streets at double the speed limit and then proceeded to drive through a red light at a junction. Mr Dickens detailed how the police pursuit went along Pentregethin Road, where Dickens continued to drive at double the speed limit and narrowly avoided a head-on collision while driving on the wrong side of the road.
