Drivers face months of disruption on key route
June 12, 2026
|South Wales Evening Post
MOTORISTS face potentially long-running disruption on a key route in West Wales which will include an overtaking ban and speed restrictions of as low as 10mph.
A temporary speed restriction and no overtaking order has been made affecting stretches of the A40 trunk road in Carmarthenshire.
The order comes into force today and could be in place for a maximum of 18 months.
The Welsh Government has confirmed the restrictions are essential due to ‘routine maintenance works’ being undertaken along the carriageway in different locations around Carmarthen and heading west towards St Clears.
The work being carried out means disruption at different times along the A40 between Glangwili roundabout and Pensarn roundabout, and heading towards Pont Lesneven roundabout next to the former B&S store.
The order also covers most of the stretch of dual carriageway between Pont Lesneven Roundabout and St Clears.
