Care worker 'transforms the lives' of her residents

A Port Talbot woman who has transformed life for residents at a local care home has been recognised at a prestigious national ceremony.

Selomy Dampies, engagement and enablement coordinator at Llys y Seren Care Home in Port Talbot, won silver in the Exceptional Newcomer category at this year’s Wales Care Awards - often described as the ‘Oscars of social care.’ The event took place at Cardiff's Holland House Hotel.

Selomy, who moved from Reading to Wales in 2024 when her husband took up a new job, began her career at Llys y Seren as a care worker before being promoted just a few months later.

Her passion for supporting residents and creating meaningful connections quickly caught the attention of her managers.

Now mother-of-three Selomy has been praised for her 'instinctive grasp' of person-centred care.
