FORMER Swansea City and Newport County boss Colin Addison has died aged 85.

- STAFF REPORTER

Addison was in charge at Swansea during one of the club’s most turbulent periods, from September 2001 to March 2002, and he provided a degree of stability during the on and off-field uncertainty at that time.

Swansea said in a statement over the weekend: “Swansea City is deeply saddened by the passing of the club’s former manager Colin Addison at the age of 85. Colin was in charge of the Swans between September 2001 and March 2002, during one of the most turbulent periods in the club’s history as a local consortium and supporters sought to wrest control from controversial owner Tony Petty.

“Replacing John Hollins, Colin and his assistant Peter Nicholas managed to provide some stability and keep the club clear of relegation problems amidst those off-field issues.

“Prior to his time with the Swans, Colin had a distinguished playing career, starting with York City in 1957, and playing in the First Division for over 10 years with Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Sheffield United.
