Stadium's £1m upgrade amid redevelopment plan

The installation is the largest of its kind at any sports stadium in the UK.

The WRU say that they would save between £300,000 and £400,000 on energy bills every year.

Chief operating officer Gavin Marshall said that the investment made financial sense - even at a time when the governing body is trying to cut a professional team.

It is expected more redevelopment of the stadium will follow over the next few years to keep the venue in line with some of the more modern stadiums emerging in the UK.

“This marks a hugely exciting milestone, not just for Principality Stadium, but for the future of Welsh rugby,” said Marshall.

“As one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world, it’s right that we harness its scale and influence to drive positive change, benefiting our game, our fans and the wider community.
