Cat numbers surge sparks animal shelter warning

|Somerset Guardian
An animal shelter in Bath saw a massive influx of cats needing their care last month, it has been revealed.
Bath Cat and Dogs Home took in 27 cats and 31 kittens in May and expect to care for over a hundred kittens this year.
The tidal wave of kittens is thought to be caused by unneutered pets, a warm spring encouraging cats to mate, and a cost-of-living crisis that makes owners more likely to surrender or abandon their pets.
Julie Stone, head of animal operations at Bath Cats and Dogs Home, said: "We'd ask for the public to help cats in three ways this kitten season.
"Firstly, don’t get caught out with unwanted kittens this summer, ask your vet about getting your cat neutered early to avoid unwanted litters. If you find an abandoned cat with kittens, please reach out to your local vet or animal rescue centres for help.
