Cheers! Clothing firm raises a glass to its new line in booze

A clothing firm specialising in South Tyneside-themed merchandise has found a new line in alcoholic spirits that is proving just the tonic.

Sanddancer Clothing Co has launched its own brand gin, rum and vodka, which bosses say is proof they have found a successful new dimension to business.

The retailer cannot sell its 70cl bottles of liquor at its clothing store in Ocean Road, South Shields - due to licensing laws.

Instead, it has teamed up with the council-run The Word library, which is doing so at its popular gift shop at the town's market place.

And with strong initial sales, the company is also looking to launch a line in bottled lager and IPA - and is seeking a brewery partner.
