Young athletes head to national championships

TWO Sevenoaks Athletics Club's juniors, Liv Mtungwazi and Imogen Mace, have been selected to represent Kent at the All England Schools Track & Field Championships, to be held in Birmingham next Saturday (July 12).

English Schools is the premier event of the season and is difficult to qualify for, with a win at your county championships and a pretty tough entry standard both required and then when get there you are up against the very best in England.

Both Mtungwazi and Mace were selected following their respective wins at the recent Kent Schools Championships, where Mtungwazi won the U16G 200m in 24.51 seconds and Mace won the U14G javelin with a throw of 35m 28cm.

Mtungwazi’s selection follows a successful indoor season during which she won the Kent Indoor title and made semi-finals at Indoor Nationals, narrowly missing the final.

She is currently ranked 12th in the UK for her age over 200m, and will be looking to try and make the finals this time round.
