Councils get Government feedback on unitary start points
May 22, 2025
|Sevenoaks Chronicle
THE Government has responded to proposals for the biggest change to local government in Kent since the 1970s.
-
Medway Council and Kent County Council have received feedback for their initial reorganisation plans, which will see them and all 12 district and borough councils disbanded.
Instead, a number of unitary authorities - expected to be three or four - will replace them in a bid to simplify and streamline local government.
In March, Medway and County Hall put forward preliminary versions of how a new system could look after the reorganisation, as a starting point. More detailed plans are expected by November.
