WWII vet's final journey
August 09, 2025
|Scottish Daily Express
MORE than 100 motorcyclists rode in convoy yesterday to the funeral of Donald Rose, who, at 110, was the UK's oldest Second World War veteran when he died last month.
Bikers escorting the D-Day hero's hearse attached Union Flags and pennants declaring "Lest we forget" to their motorcycles.
And children waiting outside Ilkeston Football Ground, where the service took place, held a banner reading: "For our tomorrow you gave your today. RIP Donald Rose."
Family members were joined by representatives of the Armed Forces, the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, the High Sheriff, the Mayor of Erewash and others to pay tribute.
