We are the only party with a plan to get our economy back on track

KEMI Badenoch will today make a pledge to stop Labour “stealing from our children and grandchildren” with their reckless economic policies.
The Tory chief’s pitch to voters will say: “We are the only party with a plan to get our economy back on track.”
In her first keynote speech as party leader, she will claim that Rachel Reeves’ “doom loop” of tax rises and runaway borrowing will saddle future generations with an astronomical burden for decades.
Setting out a new “golden rule” for the British economy, Mrs Badenoch will promise to use every pound saved to slash taxes and reduce the deficit to boost the economy if she becomes Prime Minister.
She will say: “Over the next decade, Rachel Reeves is going to double the deficit with her borrowing and tax doom loop. It’s not sustainable and it’s not fair. It is stealing from our children and grandchildren. And Conservatives will put a stop to it.”
Her defiant message comes as the Leader of the Opposition battles to revive Tory fortunes after months of dire polls and defections to Nigel Farage’s Reform.
A blizzard of fresh Tory policies on border control, leaving the European Convention on Human Rights, cracking down on welfare and bringing down energy bills have ease jitters among supporters.
Mrs Badenoch will tell the Tory faithful in Manchester today that theirs is the only party in Britain “who can be trusted to meet the tests of our generation”.
She will promise: “We are the only party with a plan to get our economy back on track. We have to get the deficit down. And we must also show how every tax cut or spending increase is paid for.”
Setting out a golden economic rule, Mrs Badenoch will add “living within our means is our first priority... we're not going to do what Labour did — promise not to cut public spending, only to take away pensioners’ winter fuel payment”.
