Audition songs of Forces' Sweetheart to be released

- By Casey Cooper-Fiske

DAME Vera Lynn's audition records will be released for the first time 90 years after they were recorded.

They were found when daughter Virginia Lewis-Jones donated her mother's music collection to the British Library's Sound Archive.

Along with the aluminium audition discs, labelled by hand with the titles What A Difference A Day Makes and Spring Don't Mean A Thing To Me, Dame Vera's first record, It's Home, made in 1935, was discovered.

Wonderful

Produced after bandleader Howard Baker invited Dame Vera to sing in 1933, it is one of just 100 copies to be pressed.

Ms Lewis-Jones said: "It's so wonderful to hear ma's voice from those early days, right at the start of her career.
