US factory is struck in Russian air attack
August 22, 2025
|Scottish Daily Express
AN American factory in Ukraine has been bombed during one of Russia's biggest aerial attacks of the year as the Kremlin continues to signal it is not ready to end the war.
Fifteen people were injured when Kalibr cruise missiles hit a site belonging to a US electronics firm in Mukachevo in the southwestern region of Transcarpathia, near the Hungarian and Slovakian borders.
One person was also killed and three injured in the western city of Lviv where extensive damage was reported. Over 20 civilian buildings, including residential homes and a nursery, were damaged in the attack.
Missiles
The Ukrainian air force said Russia fired 574 drones and 40 missiles in the overnight bombardment, with Ukraine's air defence units downing 546 drones and 31 missiles.
Ukraine's foreign minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia launched hypersonic, ballistic and cruise missiles.
He wrote on X: "Contrary to all efforts to end the war, Russia under took a massive combined air strike on Ukraine overnight."
Mr Sybiha said the targets highlighted why peace efforts were "so critical".
Kyiv's military said many of the attacks came from western Russia, as well as the Black Sea. One missile was reportedly fired from Crimea, illegally occupied by Russia since 2014.
Ukraine said the electronics plant belonged to Flex Ltd, a multinational corporation founded in Silicon Valley in 1969, with headquarters in Texas and Singapore and factories in over 30 countries.
