Scots humbled in Hampden horror

- By Scott Burns

UP THE GREEK WITHOUT A PADDLE

IT WAS a Greek tragedy as a Hampden hammering saw Scotland dumped into Nations League B.

Steve Clarke's side came into this play-off second leg full of hope after Scott McTominay's penalty winner on Thursday.

But the Scots were humbled as goals from Giannis Konstantelias, Konstantinos Karetsas and Christos Tzolis saw Greece take the hosts' place in the top tier.

It was a disappointing end to a mixed bag campaign that didn't get going until the second half of the section as a draw and two wins followed three losses.

Clarke's side have friendlies with Iceland and Liechtenstein in June - but they won't catch the imagination of a nation already deflated after an early Euro 2024 finals exit last summer.

Scotland must now regroup for a World Cup qualifying campaign that will again see us face Greece.

But, after yesterday's feeble display, it's hard to see the Scots breaking a wait since France 1998 to make the finals.
