Tory fears over 'historic' trade deal with India

A £4.8BILLION trade deal with India hailed as “historic” by Sir Keir Starmer was slammed by Conservatives for “subsidising Indian labour while undercutting British workers”.

The landmark post-Brexit trade deal includes a massive cut in tariffs on British goods sold in India while UK consumers will enjoy lower prices in the high street for products such as clothes and food.

It will add a huge £4.8bn to the UK economy and marks “a new era for trade and the economy,” the Prime Minister said.

But Conservatives and Reform warned the Government had paid a heavy price in its desperation to get an agreement.

Some Indian workers in the UK and their employers — will not be required to pay National Insurance but will make a contribution to an Indian pension fund.
