Torrential rain puts a damper on the summer

TORRENTIAL downpours brought chaos to Scotland, leaving roads under water, bus services diverted and parts of the rail network shut down.

The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms on Monday, with forecasters warning of sudden flooding and dangerous driving conditions, as well as a risk of homes and businesses being quickly inundated.

A flood alert was also in place for south east Scotland. In Newtown St Boswells in the Borders, whole streets were turned into temporary rivers as drains failed to cope with the deluge of rain.
