Titan sub tragedy firm acted 'outside deep-sea protocols'

THE Titan disaster that killed five people could have been prevented and the vessel’s owner acted outside of established deep-sea protocols, a damning report has ruled.

OceanGate had “critically flawed” safety practices and a toxic workplace culture, said the US Coast Guard.

The firm’s chief executive Stockton Rush, who piloted the submersible, showed “negligence that contributed to the deaths” and may have been subject to criminal liability if he survived.

A two-year inquiry began after the June 2023 explosion 10,800ft down left no survivors as the sub headed to the wreck of the Titanic 370 miles off Newfoundland.
