Rodgers said: “There’s definitely anger. I’m trying to control it. I’m proud of my career and how I teach players, how I inspire them and how I motivate them. “The first thing I look at myself. Am I doing the best job I possibly can to inspire and motivate them to get over the line? But there’s a comfort there I don’t like.

“And it doesn’t matter if you’re 13 points or three points ahead, it’s not enough. We have to be much better than where we were in our ambition in the game.”

But the Northern Irishman has shown he knows how to keep the gas on right to the finish. And he wants to see it in his squad.

There have been concerns. The defeat at Ibrox at Christmas, the loss at Hibs, another Old Firm disappointment at Parkhead and now losing to a side at the bottom of the league for the first time in two decades.
