Farmers protest as minister rules out scrapping death tax

LABOUR has been warned that the row over its inheritance tax raid on farmers "isn't over by a long shot", amid a fresh protest yesterday.

Farmers staged a noisy demonstration, sounding their tractor horns as Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds spoke at an agricultural conference in Oxford.

The Cabinet minister ruled out further concessions to the family farm tax after the threshold was increased from £1million to £2.5m last month.

But protesters outside the venue insisted the move does not go far enough. Dan Willis, 50, from Newbury, Berks, warned it still does not allow time for elderly farmers to plan ahead.
