TELL me, does your street have its own WhatsApp group? Mine does. And it drives me nuts.

Street's Feud for thought

Particularly all the GVS that goes on. That’s Green Virtue Signalling, this street being in Brighton.

Some months ago, one resident wanted us all to know he had half a bottle of dishwasher liquid for which he was actively seeking a good home. Yes, half.

And another had a small cardboard box she was proudly reusing simply to put it in her recycling bin.

A third used the app to announce to her neighbours - hardly millionaires, but hardly on the breadline - that she’d ordered a surplus bag of frozen oven chips she didn’t want to waste (fair enough, except that if she was ordering frozen oven chips, was it not fair to assume she had a freezer she could put them in?)

So yes, people can be a bit irksome. But here’s the thing.
