Spy boss: My row with author le Carre
April 08, 2025
|Scottish Daily Express
A FORMER MI6 chief has said he "physically" argued with John le Carre and accused the author of making betrayal the "currency of espionage" in his spy novels.
Sir Richard Dearlove, who headed the service from 1999 to 2004. said "trust and integrity" was needed in the shadowy world of intelligence.
Le Carre, the pen name of David Cornwell, was best known for his Cold War thrillers including The Spy Who Came In From The Cold and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. In them, he took a famously dim view of the activities of British intelligence.
