SCOT INSISTS MAJOR SURGE 'NOT BY LUCK'

- By Craig Swan

BOB MacINTYRE’S runners-up finish at the US Open has him surging towards Bethpage in September - and he has vowed to battle for every Ryder Cup until his career is done.

Such lofty targets are typical of the 28-year-old Scot’s passion, drive and desire.

Crucially, they look achievable as much for the sheer graft and pure trust as the awesome ability which is forging his burgeoning career.

MacIntyre didn’t get to secure a first-ever triumph at a Major at the weekend, falling just short as JJ Spaun holed a monster birdie putt on the 18th to secure a two-shot victory.

But his display at Oakmont in Pennsylvania further cemented his rightful place among the game’s elite.

First and foremost, MacIntyre has charged up to No.12 in the world rankings.

In addition, he has moved up a staggering 107 places in the Race to Dubai standings to seventh with his US Open performance and, in terms of FedEx Cup points for their end-of-season battles in the States, he is now slotted into 17th spot.

Also crucial is his powerful move into fourth in the rankings for the European side heading to face their American counterparts in September.

Europe captain Luke Donald will have six picks to make after the top half-dozen in the qualification points list for the New York duel are confirmed.
