The star of The Leopard, 81/2 and The Pink Panther, Cardinale enjoyed a six-decade long career, and was directed by Italian cinema greats such as Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti.

Born in Tunisia to Sicilian parents, Cardinale won a beauty contest at 16 that saw her declared “the most beautiful Italian woman in Tunis”.
