Nats MSP gives green light to city road charges

AN SNP MINISTER has effectively given the green light for Glasgow City Council to start charging people from other parts of Scotland to drive into the city.

Fiona Hyslop refused to say she would step in to stop SNP councillors imposing a congestion charge and toll for the Clyde Tunnel when put on the spot at Holyrood yesterday.

Instead, the Transport Secretary said she would expect her party colleagues in the city to “consult widely” and “engage with neighbouring local authorities” before imposing a levy.

Scotland's largest local authority agreed in August to investigate the possibility of putting the charges in place.
