Monthly asthma jab could replace daily steroid tablets

PATIENTS with severe asthma could come off daily steroid tablets thanks to a monthly jab that cut attacks in “exciting” trials.

Tezepelumab also known as Tezspire blocks a protein that aggravates airways.

The AstraZeneca jab is recommended as an extra treatment for over-12s when the usual medications do not work well enough.

Severe asthma can be treated with steroid tablets but over long periods they can have side effects including weight gain, stomach issues and mood changes, and trigger diabetes or osteoporosis.
