Minister urges city dwellers to ditch car in drive to net zero

A SENIOR SNP minister has urged Scots to consider getting rid of their cars if they live in cities in order to help the push for net zero.
The Scottish Government’s Net Zero and Energy Secretary Gillian Martin made the suggestion as she defended her administration’s shocking record on climate change.
The nationalist executive has already been forced to ditch its “world-leading” emissions targets after admitting defeat in reaching them, alongside its goal to reduce car use by 20% by 2030.
Climate advisers have told SNP ministers that green policies need to be introduced to get to net zero by 2045 and that includes getting rid of gas boilers.
But Ms Martin was accused of ramping up the war on motorists after claiming that those who live in cities don’t need cars. She is set to publish a new climate change plan setting out the measures needed to take Scotland to net zero.
