Labour MSP Colin Smyth accused of hiding camera in toilet at Holyrood

A SUSPENDED Labour MSP is facing further charges amid claims a secret camera was placed in toilets inside the Scottish Parliament.

Colin Smyth had already been charged by police earlier this month over the possession of indecent images.

The Daily Record revealed on Thursday he is also facing charges of placing a camera in a Holyrood toilet, although he denies these.

Smyth said: “This allegation has come as an utter shock and one I strongly refute.”

His parliamentary pass has now been deactivated ahead of MSPs returning to their offices on Tuesday.

Yesterday, Holyrood authorities said no covert device had been found after a sweep of the building by police.

Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone and Scottish Parliament chief executive David McGill sent a letter to all staff.

They acknowledged the “deeply concerning reports” would cause “unease and anxiety” for those working in the Holyrood building.
