Kemi Badenoch: 'When loses. We cut our tariffs...

America tripled theirs!'

- By Martyn Brown Political Editor

SIR Keir Starmer has been accused of allowing Britain to be “shafted” by Donald Trump after securing a trade deal with the US.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the agreement — which means the UK will still pay a 10% tariff on car exports, down from 27.5% — is more evidence that the country “loses” when Labour negotiates.

Mrs Badenoch’s blast came after the Prime Minister and President Trump hailed a “historic” transatlantic partnership, insisting it will “open up” the UK.

Charges on car and steel exports to the US will be lowered in return for Britain slashing levies and loosening curbs on farming markets.

Mrs Badenoch insists it means the UK is worse off than before Mr Trump started his tariff blitz and will hit jobs and businesses.

She said on X: "When Labour negotiates, Britain loses. We cut our tariffs - America tripled theirs."

The former Business Secretary added: “Keir Starmer called this ‘historic.’ It’s not historic, we’ve just been shafted!”

The Government has been pursuing a deal with the US to reduce the impact of sweeping tariffs imposed in Mr Trump’s “Liberation Day” announcements last month.

The agreement removes a 25% levy on British steel and aluminium.
